Russian Leather by Molton Brown

If you love warm and deep fragrances, the new Molton Brown Collection “Russian Leather” is all you are looking for.  Inspired by the 17th century Russian leather-making craft and is a great scent for winter and probably the best Christmas Gift for men.

The Russian Leather collection has a mixture of ingredients that creates a perfect balance between the smoky sweet yet spicy notes. The basil and Siberian pine make the scent and balance out the denseness of birch.
It is ideal for anyone, including myself, who enjoys heavier scents. Although Russian Leather is
considered one of the deepest leather scents, it feels surprisingly quite fresh on the skin.

JOVÅN SS18 : Exclusive Preview

jovan0.jpg

He is one of the most innovative designers of his generation in Milan and every collection he presents, hides a mysterious story behind.  JOVÅN became more popular in London during 2016; when Olly Ines (Ollywood) was the main face of his campaign.

Nonetheless, I would like to introduce you the designer as well, before sharing with you an exclusive preview of his new collection.
REY Magazine will follow and use JOVÅN SS18 for many projects in the near future.

Jovan Stevanovic was born and raised in Serbia where in 2009 he debuted his first collection during Nivea Fashion Week. After positive feedback and critics, the self-taught designer has seen his collections featured in movies, TV shows, music videos and some of the most influential magazines and platforms.
After moving to Florence, in Italy, and graduating in fashion design, Jovan moved to Milan, establishing his menswear brand JOVÅN and became creative director for FBLP menswear and womenswear label established in Germany.

JOVÅN SS18 comes to add another one story for his collections, but this time more ironic and more personal. The SS18 collection consists of menswear and womenswear for the first time.

The aesthetic and the mood has still been fixed on luxury streetwear; even though the concept is deeper than you think. The designer decided to share his ex’s and friends’ perception of himself.

It’s worth mentioning that all the visuals and logos have been created by Demna Gvasalia. The products, for men and women, will be available in white, grey, black, red and two alternative fits, and a message reading ‘BALENCIAGA DO IT YOURSELF Ts’ will featured on the back of the t-shirts.

The new space will launch on November 30 until December the 17. Dover Street Market will launch an exclusive colour of the Balenciaga Triple S sneaker on November 30 worldwide to celebrate the new collaboration.

This is not the first time that Balenciaga had the ‘copy shop’ idea as we have seen a similar concept by the brand at the Parisian concept store Colette in June.

Azzedine Alaïa has passed away at the age of 77

Fashion world mourns the death of Azzedine Alaïa. According to French media reports  French-Tunisian designer has passed away at the age of 77.

azzedine-alaa-on-fighting-the-fashion-system-1456940984.jpg

Born in Tunis on 26 February 1940 to wheat farmers, Alaïa was an early devotee to Vogue and cheated his way into the local Institut Supérieur des Beaux Arts in Tunis to study sculpture. He noted that "when I realised I couldn't be an amazing sculptor, I changed direction" - segueing into fashion. He began assisting a dress-maker and, having built up a private client base, he moved to Paris in 1957. He soon got a job at Christian Dior, in the midst of the Algerian war, but was dismissed for having incorrect immigration papers.

The Sphinx-like designer, once dubbed "the King of Cling", was highly revered for his garments that moulded the body into extraordinary proportions, the product of an obsessive craftsman who bears more resemblance to a sculptor than a fashion designer.

From Dior he went to Guy Laroche, where he spent two seasons, then to Thierry Mugler, but a series of high-society patrons allowed him to set up his own workshop. Elegant swans such as the Comtesse of Blegiers offered him lodgings in exchange for dress-making and babysitting. Hollywood stars such as Greta Garbo and the Seventies jet-set, which included Marie-Hélène de Rothschild, came regularly for fittings.

In 1980 he produced his first ready-to-wear collection, which was championed by the then doyennes of fashion, Melka Tréanton of Depeche Mode and Nicole Crassat of French Elle, who both regularly featured his work in their respective magazines.

That same year the designer moved to larger premises in Paris and by 1988 Alaïa had opened boutiques in Beverly Hills and New York. During the mid-'90s Alaïa partially retired from the fashion scene for personal reasons. However he continued to cater for a private clientele and enjoyed commercial success with his ready-to-wear lines.

Over the years he continued to create collections to the beat of his own drum, eschewing the traditional seasonal calendars, from which he retired in 1992: “When the collection is ready, it’s ready,” was Alaïa’s attitude. He showed a surprise couture collection in July, his first since 2011, in which Naomi Campbell made a rare catwalk appearance to rapturous reviews.

After an incredible collaboration with Estée Lauder, the absolute fashion icon did it again and this time she is going… athleisure! Victoria Beckham shared the news on Instagram and everyone is talking about her new  collaboration with sportswear giant Reebok.

"I am incredibly excited to embark on this partnership built on shared values. I have always championed instilling confidence in women and Reebok is a brand that has been at the forefront of this same message for decades.” Beckham shared in a statement

We have seen Reebok on collaborations with other designers Vetements and Cottweiler but the Victoria Beckham collaboration was something really unexpected.
We can’t wait to see the first design proposals from Victoria and enjoy the new products next year, as the collection will launch late 2018.

Dan Colen: Sweet Liberty exhibition in London

04 OCT 2017 – 21 JAN 2018

Photography: Karl Slater

Newport Street Gallery, London presents an exhibition of work by American artist Dan Colen (b.1979). Colen’s first major London solo show spans over fifteen years and features new works, including large-scale installations.

IMG_4589.JPG
IMG_4596.JPG

Colen emerged onto the New York art scene in the early 2000s alongside artists such as Dash Snow and Ryan McGinley. Brilliantly witty, shocking, poignant and nihilistic, his art presents a portrait of contemporary America and is, in part, an investigation into the act of producing and looking at art.

IMG_4593.JPG

Alongside significant early works such as Me, Jesus and the Children (2001–2003) – a photorealist painting of the artist’s chest, overlaid with cartoon cherubs and floating speech bubbles – the exhibition features paintings from Colen’s long-running ‘Gum’ and ‘Trash’ series. In the ‘Gum’ paintings, spots of brightly coloured chewing gum – usually only seen in the mouths of others or stuck to the soles of shoes – are layered onto the canvas as paint.
The ‘Trash’ works incorporate rubbish and discarded ephemera, the kind you would often encounter piled up in the street. Referencing Arte Povera, Abstract Expressionism and action painting, the trash is mixed with paint and used as an unwieldy brush to form shapes based on Raphael’s exalted Madonna and Child paintings. With their irreverent borrowing from art history and disruptive combination of abstraction and figuration, they are paintings about painting, paintings about belief.

The exhibition features four installations, in which Colen continues to appropriate and subvert imagery from the globalised mass media and American subcultures. In these installations, Colen’s examinations of masculinity and individuality are brought to the fore. The bloated, spent machismo of the American Dream is laid bare to reveal a deep-seated existential unease.

On the occasion of the exhibition, Colen states: “This show is the first time I’ve been able to present the full range of my work and the wide-ranging ideas, crafts, materials, technologies and processes that I engage with. The earliest piece in the exhibition was begun eleven days before 9/11 and the exhibition follows my intuitive trajectory over the last fifteen years, which has allowed me to consider the transforming power of art when it’s experienced in different moments and contexts. It also creates a perfect space for the viewer to settle in on my interests, which are sure but can be meaningless, often formless, striving for the inexplicable; which can be most felt in the negative spaces, the cracks, the holes and barely perceptible lines that are always there connecting all seemingly disparate things.”

Fall Winter 2017 Most popular womenswear trends

As the season is changing and we are transitioning into Autumn/Winter a lot of new trends emerge. This is a rundown of what I’m personally loving and what we’ll be seeing a lot of in these coming months.

Total red looks (head to toe red)
From the legendary Karl Lagerfeld Fendi runway show to the MaxMara high fashion collection the head to toe red is s must. The Givenchy collection was predominantly entirely in this colour pallet making it super bold, feminine, sexy, and intriguing. Go for it you will not regret it!

MaxMara

MaxMara

FENDI

FENDI

Glitter, metallics
Metallics were seen in so many shows adding a fresh contemporary twist to classic quilted jackets to the spaced themed Chanel runway.
Isabel Marant and Dolce Gabbana were filled with sequences and sparkles whereas in JW Anderson the metallic in dresses and tops were given a chainmail take, reminiscent of the Paco Rabanne 60’s famous signature.
Glittery boots can be considered a must have of the season and have already spotted in so many runways. The glittery effect of the Chanel boots and the Swarovski shine sparkles of the Yves Saint Laurent will make the stare and the price worth the while.

CHANEL

CHANEL

JW Anderson

Plaid
Plaid, check and houndstooth are very popular this season and although no pattern is the same with one another I’m grouping them together since they are originally based within the same contrasting colour tones.
This season we can also see them translated into brighter colours and designers have incorporated a variety of fabrics, from the classic grey plaid suits seen on the Calvin Klein runway to classic coats for the Prada runway collection.
Plaid was also used in Michael Kors dresses, Louis Vuitton jackets and check jumpsuit in Chanel.
Different patterns of plaid and different colours were included in the shows.

CHANEL

CHANEL

Velvet
Velvet will still be strong this season from velvet suits to bags and shoes it is a show stopper textile in different richer brighter colours, ochre yellow, emerald green, navy, burgundy and pink.
Velvet is synonymous with luxury and has been incorporated in many runways including Valentino,
Opening Ceremony, Philip Lim and Luisa Beccaria.

Belt bags
A new entry in accessories are belt bags and another ode to the 90’s I might add.
Slowly being introduced last season and now a statement staple with some of my favourites being the Gucci velvet ones, the studded and to the more edgy, trunk Prada ones.
I’m already deciding which one will be mine.

Suits
Suits are a favourite go to investment piece and if you have not already given it a try now is the time, since suits have come a long way from the work wear appropriate attire.
From plaid to minimal monochrome suits, and lined straight cut designs to blazers that cinch in the waist for a more feminine look.
Combined with crispy white shirts and decorated bows will make a suit stand out and translate it for more formal outings or paired with a slogan t-shirt and some jewellery for every day.

Jeans on jeans
It seems that last year we didn’t get enough of the trend and this year is back on track. The double denim ootd is having a moment but this time the colours of the denim are the same giving it a true all American blue vibe..

Puffy Padded jackets
Oversized puffy jackets are here to make a statement for the Balenciaga bright red jacket to the Tory Burch quilted dresses seem like there are here to stay.
The collections have re-designed and transcended the puffer jackets for 2017 by adding more volume, and more details as well as also using in some cases a more matte fabric instead of the glossy materials we were used to before.
Invest in bright colours for maximum impact.

Vinyl- matrix
Vinyl started making a comeback.
From vinyl trousers, in reds and black, to vinyl coats and skirts.
Glossy vinyl or either patent vinyl combined with brighter or deeper colours can give that effortless cool vibe.  The futuristic look that vinyl has to offers gives a sling sexy appearance and you can opt for a full on matrix-looking coat or outfit or if you want to dip your toes in this trend go for trousers or a vinyl looking jacket.
