Alessandro Michele Is Valentino's New Creative Director

Alessandro Michele, the former creative director of Gucci, has been appointed as the creative director of the couture house Valentino. Michele stepped down from Gucci in November 2022 and the announcement ends much industry speculation about where he would go next.

From April 2nd, Alessandro will join the firm and begin work on the upcoming menswear, womenswear, and haute couture collections. His first work, which will be the Spring/Summer 2025 collection, will be presented in September in Paris during Fashion Week.

Gucci is 100 years old. For the occasion, Alessandro Michele is designing a men's and women's fall-winter 2021-2022 show that highlights the brand's heritage through a plethora of pieces and accessories as daring as each other.

And because he never does things by halves, for his last show, he decided to appropriate the avant-garde spirit signed by Balenciaga by Demna Gvasalia and the hypersexualized aesthetic of Tom Ford of the Gucci era .

The Kering-owned Italian megabrand joins stablemate Saint Laurent in breaking with the conventional fashion calendar.

“I will abandon the worn-out ritual of seasonalities and shows to regain a new cadence, closer to my expressive call,” said designer Alessandro Michele in a diary entry posted to Gucci’s Instagram.

“We will meet just twice a year,” the entry continues, “to share the chapters of a new story. Irregular, joyful and absolutely free chapters, which will be written blending rules and genres, feeding on new spaces, linguistic codes and communication platforms.” The Italian megabrand is planning a virtual press conference with select journalists for Monday.
