DIOR Men Pre-Fall 2022: Watch the London show (Video)

Kim Jones brought a youthquake to London with an exhibition and runway show inspired by Jack Kerouac and the Beat Generation of writers.

Kim Jones brought an American spirit of freedom, the rebellious energy of youth culture — and the Brits’ knack for offbeat fashion — to the Dior men’s runway at Kensington Olympia in west London on Thursday night.

It was the first time since 2003 that Jones has staged a show in his home country, and he returned with a vengeance. He presented an eclectic pre-fall collection, followed by a massive, champagne-fuelled party — topped off with a surprise performance by Grace Jones.

Dior Men: Pre-Fall 2021 Virtual Show (Video)

Last year, Kim Jones revealed a colorful collaboration with Shawn Stussy, the streetwear OG.

This season, he tapped Kenny Scharf, an American artist who emerged from the 1980s East Village scene, making street art alongside his friends Keith Haring and Jean-Michel Basquiat. “The fun and the energy of that time—you see young kids being excited by Kenny Scharf’s work. It’s speaking across generations,” Jones said.

Sticking to a completely virtual presentation for the runway show, Jones blends heritage with history-in-the-making as we see the designer's second collection created admist the coronavirus pandemic.

Dior Men at its best: Fall 2020-2021 at Paris Fashion Week

Dior Men Fall 2020-21 show was definetely one of our favourites.

Elegant silhouettes, tailoring, and innovative styling proposals have been combined to create Kim Jones’ latest vision for the Dior Man. Berets, zips, long gloves and safety pins were a nod to 1980s punk era.

The collection was a tribute to British stylist and punk iconoclast Judy Blame.

DIOR & The shell trend: Next year, it will still be on men's fashion list

the Dior homme pre-fall 2020 show, presented in Miami, was definetely one of our favourites.

Scene silhouettes infused with cool, thought in collaboration with Shawn Stussy, floral and tropical shirts and relaxed tailoring were some of the main characteristics of the ready to wear collection.

What about the accessories though?

We loved the berret hats but we also noticed the seashell jewelry trend which it seems to be even more bold from next season onwards.

Editor’s note:

For 2 years, shell jewelry has been on all fronts, inviting itself on necklaces, bracelets, earrings and even anklets, infusing a touch of cool to the silhouettes that adopt it.

Dior Men: The Pre Fall 2020 show

Kim Jones has remade Dior Men from top to bottom in the 18 months since his debut—with a global team, with artist collaborations, and with a Saddle Bag for dudes, to say nothing of the pageantry he’s brought to the house’s pantsuits.

But the most Jonesian development of all is the synthesis of high and low, couture and street. So integral is this intermingling to his Dior Men project that Jones rejects distinctions between the categories as old-fashioned and out of touch. “Today, people buy what’s the best,” he said in a pre-show interview, the implication being that Dior Men is deserving of the superlative.

Dior Men AW19 at Paris Fashion Week Men's

Kim Jones did it again… and we loved every single look of this new DIOR Men collection for autumn/winter 2019 -2020.

He offered a remarkably refined vision of modern masculinity and here are some higlights to note before you check out the new collection:

  • After the enormous floral effigy of Monsieur Dior created by KAWS and the 39-foot tall Hajime Sorayama robot, this season he staged the show On A Conveyor Belt.

  • The Clothes Offered A Modern Vision Of Elegance.

  • The animal print will be the new men’s essential.

  • Raymond Pettibon Offered Up Punk Couture

“This time I wanted the clothes to be the statues,” said Kim Jones

Dior Men Pre Fall 2019

Kim Jones is building his vision for Dior Men with the notion that rules are meant to be broken.

First, he separated himself from a decade of “Dior Homme” and its super-skinny silhouette with a new name, and a fresh, boxier cut. Now, half a season in, he’s taking his vision on the road, landing in Tokyo with a Pre-Fall extravaganza to rival the season’s blockbuster womenswear shows.

On the runway were items for all kinds of guys, from the ones who want to wear a monogram silk shirt with cherry blossom accents to others who are looking for dapper houndstooth suits with posh, asymmetric blazers. A white astrakhan bomber that shaded into a toile de Jouy summed it up: something elegant as hell, yet grounded in utility, and designed with couture craftsmanship and know-how.

All of this was brought together around a 39-and-a-half-foot statue of a silver robo-babe by the Japanese artist Hajime Sorayama.
